The Women’s Club of Portsmouth was originally built in 1930. What started as the Portsmouth Country Club in the early 1900′s, the Woman’s Club of Portsmouth has hosted hundreds of wedding receptions, parties, fundraisers, and community events over the past 80 years. Just recently, the Portsmouth Service League took ownership of the building and completed a capital campaign to raise funds to renovate the beautiful Portsmouth icon. The building has a unique architectural style which has been preserved by the hard work of the Portsmouth Service League.
All of the profits brought in by this building will be donated to the Portsmouth Service League, which in turn donates the money to other non-profit organizations and community projects throughout Hampton Roads.
The Portsmouth Service League has a long history of fundraising for the community. It is the vision of the League for the building to generate revenue to be contributed back into the community, helping to continue that long standing tradition. The building can contribute much more than just revenue. The Portsmouth Service League allows the building to be used by area nonprofits since many nonprofits do not have a home. It is the Portsmouth Service League’s vision to have the building used for their meetings and give them a place in which to operate. The Woman’s Club building is not only a wonderful venue for meaningful events in a person’s life, it can also make a great impact on the lives of those around us.
