Causes We Support

The Portsmouth Service League has a rich history of service in the community. We have provided volunteer services for many organizations including, but certainly not limited to, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Gala and Golf Tournament, Suited for Success, EDMARC, Family Volunteer Day, REACH, ROC Solid, and Citizen’s Committee to Protect the Elderly. The 2015-2016 Provisional Class chose to support EDMARC Hospice for Children.

Westhaven Boys Home

The Westhaven Boys Home is a residential group home for boys aged 12-17.  The program has a dual function, serving as both a post-dispositional/longer term treatment center and as a pre-dispositional detention alternative/emergency shelter for foster children or for teens in crisis.  With a capacity of 13 boys, the Westhaven Boys Home provides the supervision and treatment needed to foster positive attitudinal and behavioral changes. The Provisionals of the Portsmouth Service League partnered with Suited for Success during the 2013-2014 League year.

Suited for Success

The mission for Suited for Success is to help women and men achieve self-sufficiency by providing professional clothing and career development services. Its services, available to clients at no charge, empower women and men to find and keep jobs that provide them with economic independence. The Provisionals of the Portsmouth Service League partnered with Suited for Success during the 2012-2013 League year.

Edmarc Hospice for Children

The mission of Edmarc Hospice for Children is to ease the trauma of a child’s illness or death, and to reduce the disabling effects of pediatric illness, loss, and bereavement on families in the Hampton Roads Area. Portsmouth Service League members volunteer in various ways to support Edmarc.

Paint Your Heart Out

Paint Your Heart Out is a volunteer driven program that helps low to moderate income, senior, or disabled homeowners by painting and providing essential repairs and upkeep of their homes. The Rotary Club coordinates the efforts of numerous local organizations to provide hands on assistance.
